Update 1/2009: Although this dam line was on the brink of extinction, the births of fillies within the last 10 years have given hope that this dam line will survive for a while longer. Care will still be needed, but this line has hope were there was once little.

Update 10/2006: I know little about this dam line, but yearly updates are required so that we know the current status of each dam line. In the case of the *Nufoud dam line, I am happy to say that there has been another addition to the line born in 2006 - a colt by the name of AB Razeel. Congratulations to his owners and his dam LD Rubic.
I have also added two tables. Table 1: *Nufoud progeny gives the complete progeny list for the *Nufoud dam line. I find it interesting to note that although some of the mares were quite prolific, they were not being bred to AK stallions so their progeny were lost to Al Khamsa. Table 2: 25yo and younger shows those horses which were 25yo and younger and were not identified by the AHA Datasource as being deceased or gelded at the time of this update. Although, based on the progeny chart below, some of the horses are no longer available for breeding for one reason or another, I can not identify these horses as deceased so they remain in the chart. Althougth this dam line is clearly one that will require dedicated breeders to keep it alive for quite some time, there is hope in the foals that have been born in recent years. A filly in 2002, a filly and a colt in 2004, and a colt born in 2006.
Original 2004:
"A 1925 'light bay' Kuhaylat-Ajuz mare bred by
the Sa'ud Royal Studs and imported in 1931 to the U.S.A. by Albert W. Harris."
- Al Khamsa Arabians II, Al Khamsa Inc., 1993.
A great debt of gratitude is owed the late Carol
Lyons for saving this line from extinction from AK altogether. In
1979 she obtained Tarrla - then the only AK tail-female *Nufoud mare remaining
in existence. In 1982 Tarrla had a foal by the Davenport stallion Plantagenet
. . . the lovely LD Rubic. LD Rubic has produced five fillies who
are helping continue this line. Kudos go to 21 year-old LD Rubic and
her owners for their 2004 filly!
As seen in the table below, the *Nufoud tail-female
line is quite rare within Al Khamsa. The eight mares and fillies in
white denote those left to continue the line. Further study shows that
few of these mares are presently of prime age for breeding.

These tail-female *Nufoud horses are 'combined
source' Al Khamsa Arabians. They are the combination of several Al Khamsa
ancestral elements. Not 'straight' this or 'straight' that . . . just
of purely desert bred ancestry. I think that Carol Lyons said it best:
"I believe that the AK combined source horses
are the horses which are in the most urgent need of preservation efforts.
I am not speaking of combinations that can be recreated at will -
such as Egypt-Davenport-Blunt. I am talking about the fact that several
AK Foundation horses and/or combination bloodlines are so rare that they may
die out . . . What a terrible loss for ever and ever." - December,
1999.

The mares LD Rubic, Belladonna CHF, Bint Rubic CHF, MSF Rubie, Jadah Necessity
and Jadah BelloftheBall lack the Blunt element (non-Blunt or 'Sharp', to
coin a term from Carol Lyons). This is something to note as over 90%
of Arabian horses have the Blunt ancestral element . . . and once an element
is added, it cannot be removed from the future gene pool. The Sharps
are a select group consisting of the straight Davenports, the Blue Stars and
a perhaps a few dozen other individuals.
