Hadriya was a 1954 chestnut mare. She is identified by the AHA DataSource as being out of a 'desert bred' mare which would indicate that even the name of her dam is unknown. Yet Hadriya was not technically imported into Canada, she was born there. Her sire was an imported, AHR registered stallion (*JALAM AL UBAYAN) that was identified as being transferred to a US owner in 1966 (well after 1954). Al Khamsa information (http://www.alkhamsa.org) identifies Hadriya is being the daughter of Sawannah. Since Hadriya was born in Canada,it is clear that her dam had to get there somehow and someone had to know the name of an imported mare! My suspicion would be that Hadriya was the only foal of Sawannah born in North America. For whatever reason, Sawannah herself was not registered while there was sufficient information on Hadriya for her to be identified, not only as a purebred Arabian, but as being Al Khamsa.
Unfortunately, I know no more about this dam line than I learned from researching the names of the horses in order to create the progency chart and associated tables. Hopefully someone who is more knowledgeable than I will share his/her knowledge of this strain/dam line at some point in the future. Until then, I hope that the research presented on these pages has helped you to learn about this dam line, strain, and Al Khamsa horses.
Update 10/2009: There are still enough mares of breeding age to keep this dam line viable. I encourage those breeders to breed at least one filly replacement for this dam line before breeding to non-Al Khamsa or nonarabian stallions. Every breeder should breed as his/her heart directs, but that is my request.
Update 12/2008: Although few in number this strain/dam line has a small number of breeders who are contributing to keeping this dam line viable.
