Hamdani Simri/*Selma dam line
Unfortunately, I know no more about this dam line than I learned from researching the names of the horses in order to create the progency chart and associated tables. Hopefully someone who is more knowledgeable than I will share his/her knowledge of this strain/dam line at some point in the future. Until then, I hope that the research presented on these pages has helped you to learn about this dam line, strain, and Al Khamsa horses.
Until someone writes something for this space, I will share my reasoning for identifying this dam line as 'rare' rather than 'endangered'. There are horses that I'm sure will never foal because they haven't been blood typed - much less DNA typed! There are horses that are identified as 'no longer owned by owner' so the chances are very good that they will never produce offspring. And finally, there are horses that I'm sure will be identified as 'deceased' even though their status on the AHA Datasource would indicate that they are alive. All of these things would reduce the number of mares to be less than the cut off for 'endangered' vs 'rare'. All of these things also exist on dam lines that are 'endangered' without removing any mare. In addition, the 'cut offs' were created with the knowledge that no matter how thorough we were in researching, there would be horses that are no longer reproductively sound that were not identified. For these reasons, the AHA is the 'final' authority on which horses are deceased and which horses are identified as being '25 yo or younger'.
