*Werdi AHR*41 was a chestnut mare born in 1900. Imported by Homer Davenport she produced 4 colts and 3 fillies. Of the mares, only Tamarinsk's (AHR*143) progeny bred on to produce subsequent generations of Al Khamsa horses. This page shows the first two generations of *Werdi's descendents.
It may seem odd to display only two generations on an entire webpage, but this was done for a reason. Of *Werdi's granddaughters only Kapiti (AHR*506) and Babe Azab (AHR*567) produced foals - specifically foals that were within Al Khamsa. It seemed reasonable to separate the dam lines at this point for separate discussion.
The Kapiti dam line was lost to the straight Davenport group, but continued to breed on within AK. While breeders of the straight Davenports seem to have communicated (from all appearances) to preserve the straight Davenports and, as a side effect, the *Werdi dam line through Babe Azab, I don't know that anyone was aware that there was 'another' *Werdi dam line through Kapiti until the research for this website was initiated. Because I own one of these mares, I tried to contact every mare owner in order to inform him/her of the very small number of mares remaining of this dam line. Although not all owners responded, I did manage to locate two mares of this strain that are in confirmed breeding programs - perhaps some of the other mares will be bred if their owners are made aware that this dam line really IS rare. I can only hope. Clearly the continued existence of this dam line is resting on the ability of just two mares to produce daughters that will, in turn, produce daughters within AK. Is the Kapiti dam line worth worrying about? After all, the *Werdi dam line via Babe Azab, if not 'safe' at this time is at least well represented. Does the Kapiti dam line really 'matter'? I can't answer that question for everyone. I happen to own one of the two mares that is in a breeding program so I am the tiniest bit biased. I will repeat a statement that has been made many times by others - "once a dam line disappears, it is gone forever". I, for one, hope that the Kapiti dam line never disappears. This page shows how the Kapiti dam line bred on within AK until the present time. While
this page identifies mares and stallions of the *Werdi dam line that are believed to be currently alive. The table located further down on this page shows the numbers of mares and stallions of the Kapiti dam line.
I have thought long and hard about what to say concerning the Babe Azab dam line which I am much less familiar with and which has clearly been actively preserved. I don't want to slight any of the many people who have worked to preserve this dam line, yet I don't know enough about the various breeding programs to write about them knowledgeably. I have decided to simply discuss what can be seen from the numbers of horses and hope that someone who knows more about this dam line and the breeding programs that it is associated with will consent to write a more detailed explanation of the Babe Azab dam line.
Like so many other dam lines, the Babe Azab dam line was preserved by only one mare on more than one occasion. Babe Azab, herself, had 14 progeny - 2 nonAK offspring, 8 AK stallions, and 4 AK mares. Although this certainly seems to be enough to secure the future of the dam line, this was in a time period before the concept of "preservation breeding" and "Al Khamsa" were developed. Of her 4 daughters only Badia still exists in AK dam lines today. Although Badia, another prolific mare, producing 8 nonAK foals, 2 AK stallions, and 2 AK mares; only her daughter Asara produced daughters within AK. To see details of the Babe Azab dam line, please visit this page .
Asara had, not one, but THREE daughters who continued the *Werdi/Babe Azab dam line within AK: Olivia, June, and High-C. Although I don't know much about the Babe Azabe dam line and Davenport preservation breeding, I believe that it is obvious to anyone reading the names of the horses (there are some clear naming patterns) that a number of breeders began an active effort to preserve these wonderful horses. Because of the efforts of these breeders, the *Werdi/Babe Azab line, although not 'safe', is in much better shape than one would expect of a dam line that was being continued by only one mare on more than one occasion. The number of fillies/mares of this dam line are a lasting tribute to those who have worked so hard to preserve this dam line and, in some cases, the Davenport horses. To see details of the Asara dam line, please visit this page .
This page gives a table of all horses that are possibly alive and not gelded (in the case of the stallions) for both the Kapiti and Babe Azab dam lines along with whether or not they are considered straight Davenport as well as Al Khamsa. The table below shows the number of living *Werdi dam line foals that were born and still believed to be alive.

There is more information available at: Hawk Haven Farm/Straight Davenport Arabians of the Kuhaylan Kurush Strain and Hawk Haven Farm/Straight Davenport Arabians of the Kuhaylan Kurush Strain (newer version) Kim hasn't had time to do updates in a while so be nice, but her site(s) were the source of some of my first information when I started researching the Kuhaylan Krush strain.
The main source of information was the AHRA CD for 2001. Information was also obtained
from the online Datasource, Al Khamsa II, and the 2003 Al Khamsa
Directory. If you notice any errors in the information presented,
