The El Samraa dam line is identified as being both Kuhaylan and Saqlawi Jidran because she and her progeny were identified under both strains in the EAO stud books. Why this happened is, of course, open to speculation and conjecture.
I didn't finish researching the El Samraa dam line before I discovered that there are more than 100 mares of this dam line in North America that are under 25 years old and not identified as deceased by the Arabian Horse Registry. So why bother to keep the research on the 'rare' strains site? There are actually two answers to that question. One involves my method of coding as I research, but the second reason is more important: because this research might be important to someone who owns one of these mares.
It seems to me that all too often people get caught up in the rarity of a bloodline/dam line rather than better reasons for wanting to breed/preserve a particular line of horses. Do you love them? Does watching them make your heart sing? If you could only have ONE horse would it be a horse of the line that you want to preserve? My first horse was a half arabian gelding. He passed in 1990 and I would trade every horse I currently own if I could have him back. The stallion that my breeding program was originally designed around was Straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa, Sheyhk Obeyd, Heirloom, and Babson/Brown/Pritzlaff - fairly rare, but not as rare as some I guess. And if I couldn't bring back my first horse - Zadaan would be my second pick. If I could only have one. If you feel THAT strongly about the bloodline that you have chosen to breed, then rarity REALLY does not matter.
Use the research on the pages to learn more about the horses you own or to research the horse that you are considering buying. But please don't make a decision not to buy or to change your breeding program because the El Samraa dam line is not rare.
Hopefully someone who is more knowledgeable than I will share his/her knowledge of this strain/dam line at some point in the future. Until then, I hope that the research presented on these pages has helped you to learn about this dam line, strain, and Al Khamsa horses.
