Muniqi S'baili/Ferida dam line
The Muniqi S’baili strain Foundation Mare is Ferida, GSB *120, 1886. She is carried forward in Al Khamsa to our time through one daughter imported into the United States who bred on; * Felestin, AHR *359 a 1916 chestnut mare, imported here in 1918. *Felestin, while she had 6 AK offspring, 2 stallions and 4 mares, it was only through 1 daughter that the Ferida dam line continued to exist within AK. Her daughter Kishta AHR *1829 1940 grey mare, further continues the line with her daughter Milanne, AHR*2837, 1944 gm. While Milanne was fairly prolific, with 17 total offspring, only 2 of these were within the AK roster.
Those 2 daughters are Velours, AHR *39278, 1966 grey mare, and Bint Milanne, AHR *49675, 1968 bay mare.
In the offspring of these 2 mares, I came across a number of dead ends, either through some mares having only colts, or the mares not being bred within AK.
In the case of the mare Velours, the thread holding her to AK is dangerously thin, with only 4 mares left.
Bint Milanne’s line is in slightly better shape, with 21 mares left.
Overall, the ranks of the Muniqi S’baili are considerably thinner than the Muniqi Hadruj, and the strain is to be considered rare, although I am very tempted to break down the remaining mare lines the way I did with the Hadruj, which would classify the Velours line as endangered and the Bint Milanne line as rare.
Once again, (and not to literally beat a dead horse, here ;-) it would appear that the only reason these horses have been bred on would be due to the incidence of the color black.
But what ever the reason, the Muniqi S’baili are in some pretty dire straits as a whole.
Something that needs to be mentioned is the relationship between the Muniqi Hadruj and the Muniqi S’baili. It is believed that the foundation mares for both of the substrains were actually full sisters. When one of the mares changed hands, the change in substrain name occurred. Strains are similar to family names, reflecting who was breeding the horses at the time.

I will readily admit that I am not as familiar with the S’baili as I am with the Hadruj. I recently bought a S’baili mare, and in the course of doing the research for this site, I became much more familiar with the S’baili in general, although I would definitely NOT classify myself as an expert.
With the above comment in mind, if I have made any errors in what I’ve written, I gladly welcome input and/or corrections, especially if it comes with documentation.
